Close Call...

Unless you were living in a cave, I'm sure that everyone is aware of the big storms that passed through the East and Midwest this past Friday night. The storm killed and injured a few people and left many thousands without power. They are still working to restore downed power lines and trees.

Speaking of downed trees... I got home from work Friday evening and was surprised to see that the big tree in my front yard had snapped in two! It was bent at nearly a right angle and was strewn out a little bit into the road. From the looks of it, mine was the only downed tree in the neighborhood. Lucky me, eh?

But the good news is that when the tree fell, it fell away from the house (towards the road side), so it fortunately didn't cause any damage to my house. But I have to admit it will take a while to get used to not having a tree in my front yard. The city came and cleared it out Saturday morning.

In other news, it's been a long time since I've posted any entries. I guess you could say that I have been quite busy so far this summer. And it's not likely to slow down any time soon!

But I did want to take the chance to reflect on my niece's baptism from about a month ago. My newest niece, Allison, was baptized over Memorial Day weekend and we had the whole family home for it. It was a little more special for me this time because I was asked to be Allison's godfather! What an honor!

Of course, since I'm still single, my cousin Maely was asked to be the godmother. So Maely and I participated in the ceremony and were given pretty sweet picture frames from Bethany and Matt.
